“Sinners get preferential treatment, I say this with envy.” With these words, Filippo Magnini, as a guest at Belve, commented on the alleged doping case involving him in 2018, comparing it with the accusations recently leveled against the South Tyrolean.

I think he was treated like that because he was an active athlete, whereas I was treated like an ordinary person accused of doping,” said Magnini, recalling how Sinner was examined and released within a few days. “All athletes should be treated the same,” he added. “If Sinner’s punishment was imposed after 2 years, he would have missed 2 years of tournaments and that would not be fair.”

Magnini later commented on the press’s behavior regarding his case: “The press was right with Sinner. I appeared in all the newspapers and they accused me of doping, without confirming the truth. After 20 years of career, I expected more respect, I was slaughtered”.

Winning record

Space for sporting success and its ‘jealousy’. Joint swimming champion Francesca Fagnani traced her records, starting from those achieved in the first 48 seconds and 200 seconds, celebrated with a crown-shaped tattoo on her arm. “When you break a record then the nightmare starts that someone else will beat it,” said Fagnani.

Magnini immediately answered: “In Italy, yes, and I say in Italy because we are an envious country, especially in the field of sport,” said the athlete who admits that he is jealous of other people’s success. “I was always afraid that someone else would beat me, once you are at the top, you can only fall and many hope you fall because the fall of the champion always fascinates,” he added.

The champion admits he often hears it himself: “Those who hope you fail always look at you more attentively than those who hope you win.”
