“Have several guardian angels”Kai Diekmann’s vacation home burned to the ground
A remote log cabin in Patagonia has dream vacation potential. But Kai Diekmann had a nightmare: in the middle of the night his house caught fire. It was just a coincidence that no one was harmed.
The holiday home of the former editor-in-chief of the newspaper “Bild”, Kai Diekmann, caught fire. The 61-year-old man shared a video of the fires in Argentina’s Patagonia region on his Instagram Story on Friday. The wooden hut located on the edge of the lake and among the trees caught fire.
“We did well and were able to get all of our items out on time,” Diekmann wrote. The fire broke out around midnight. He himself was already asleep, “luckily the other two weren’t.”
Firefighters “in a quiet corner of Argentina” took almost 90 minutes to get there. Patagonia is located at the southern tip of South America, sparsely populated and famous for its unique nature. Diekmann suspects the cause of the fire was “a short circuit related to a newly installed solar system.”
Diekmann and his friends apparently escaped again in fear. “Yes, we have some guardian angels,” he continued. He obviously didn’t want his holiday to be ruined. “On the road again” and “Have a great weekend,” her Instagram story continued. He also posts photos of views from Patagonia.
Diekmann was editor-in-chief of the newspaper “Bild” from 2001 to 2015. Since then he has worked mainly as a consultant. He is married to journalist Katja Kessler. The couple has four children and lives in Potsdam. It’s unclear from the Instagram story who he was with in Patagonia.
