A logical defeat against South Africa (17-32) and a crushing victory against Fiji (34-21), this is France’s 15th poor record on the Autumn Tour this time. Saturday night’s final game against Australia could see the Blues end the year with a smile.
There are many sources of satisfaction in this team. The return of Charles Ollivon, the back line was led by record holder Damian Penaud, supersonic Louis Bielle-Biarrey and top scorer Thomas Ramos… But on the field, this was not immediately marked by incredible flights and glorious victories. Having slumped against Fiji, despite trailing 21-0, Fabien Galthié’s Blues will have a lot going for them against Australia.
This Australia is not necessarily scary. Like Fiji, we still have to be aware of fluctuations in concentration. Most importantly, this kind of meeting is the first preparation for the 2027 World Cup which will take place… in Australia. A win on Saturday night is important, but a win without means would bring home a point even more for a team plagued by doubts.
