The Macronist group in the National Assembly, Ensemble Pour la République, will present a draft law on Tuesday, November 18 to regulate the use of social networks by minors, franceinfo has learned, which can consult the text. This bill was co-signed by former Prime Minister, Gabriel Attal.

The text promises to tighten the younger generation’s access to social networks, such as TikTok, Instagram and Snapchat. Among the measures: a ban on the social network for those under 15 and suspension of the accounts of young people who already use the platform. It also aims to establish a digital curfew for minors between 15 and 18 years of age.

The text specifically accuses TikTok of doing just that “building highly effective and devastating algorithms that can have a detrimental impact on mental health, especially for children”. The potential harmful consequences of these platforms were noted during a parliamentary commission investigation into the psychological impact of TikTok.

The proposed law is supported by elected officials from Macron’s group, while Emmanuel Macron himself has increased his number of trips and debates on social media topics in recent weeks. The text could be vetted as early as 2026 at the National Assembly and appears to be reaching consensus among various groups.
