France must demonstrate its willingness to consult with its people

Does France act like that “environmental democracy” which is claimed to be in preparation for the 2030 Alpine Olympics (OG)? Paris has five months to prove it to the Aarhus committee, which was deemed acceptable, Wednesday 19 November, in Geneva (Switzerland), at the request of several collectives and elected officials who demanded more transparency and consultation in the process. They criticized Paris for not allowing the public to be involved in the organizing process from the start, when all options were still open, including debating the feasibility of these Games.

In cases 219 and 220, which for the first time brought together collectives and associations opposing the Olympics – as well as deputies for the second Olympics – with the Olympic organizing body, the parties had gone to trial the day before, Tuesday, November 18. During the eighty minutes that the discussion on this issue lasted, a big question hung over room H-207 in the prestigious UN room: in the matter of the Alpine Olympics-2030, is France acting in accordance with the commitments it made signing the Aahrus convention in 1998?
