G20 meeting: Ramaphosa: Continue talks on US participation in the G20 summit

Based on signals from Washington, South African President Cyril Ramaphosa still hopes the US will take part G20 Summit this weekend in South Africa. “We have received communications from the United States, which we are still discussing with them.” Therefore, the US has “changed its mind about participating in the summit in some form,” South African President Cyril Ramaphosa said in Johannesburg. “Discussions are still ongoing.”

The discussions were held at a late stage, two days before the start of the summit, Ramaphosa said. Therefore, South Africa must comply United States of America discuss what the message actually means and how participation can be put into practice. “We see this as a positive sign. As I always say: political boycotts never work,” Ramaphosa said. “It’s better to sit inside the tent than outside the tent. Good to hear there’s a change in direction.”
