US President Donald Trump wants to take part South Africa at the 2026 G20 Summit in America. The Republican wrote in his Truth Social platform that, on his instructions, South Africa would not accept an invitation to Miami, the venue for the meeting.
He again accused his country of oppressing white farmers. Its residents were killed and their land illegally confiscated, Trump claimed. The president deplored the “horrific human rights violations” against white South Africans and once again spoke of “genocide.” He did not provide any evidence for his accusations. South Africa, whose black population was oppressed by a white apartheid government for decades, has repeatedly rejected Trump’s accusations. Experts also strongly disagree with the depiction of the alleged genocide.
Trump wants to stop the payments
Trump also criticized his country for where it was at the end of the last decade G20 Summit a few days ago in Johannesburg refused to symbolically hand over the annual chairmanship of the G20 to a high-level representative of the US embassy. South African President Cyril Ramaphosa has so far refused to take such formal steps, which is standard procedure. The US President was not present at the summit in South Africa, and Vice President JD Vance was also absent. In this context too, Trump accused the country, without evidence, of persecuting and killing white farmers there.
Trump also announced that… United States of America will immediately stop all payments and support. What exactly he meant by that remains unclear.
The group of industrialized and developing countries (G20) includes 19 countries, the European Union and the African Union. These countries include large Western democracies such as the US, Germany and the UK, as well as authoritarian states such as Russia and China. G20 members contribute 85 percent of global economic output.
In the fall, Trump announced that next year’s G20 summit would be held in Florida – at one of his golf resorts. Trump emphasized: The luxury Doral complex near Miami is very close to the airport and is the “best location” for a summit in December 2026. However, the company behind the golf resort will not make any money.
