The first winter rains have turned Gaza’s refugee camps into mudflats, causing thousands of tents already damaged by two years of war to collapse. Entire families were left without shelter, mattresses, blankets and some of their belongings were soaked. The rain poured down on hundreds of tents, exacerbating an already critical humanitarian situation due to hunger, shortages and constant Israeli attacks. According to the Gaza government press office, around 93% of existing tents (around 125,000 out of 135,000) are no longer usable. Refugees live huddled outside the “yellow line”, an area where returning to destroyed homes is prohibited.
