That Security Council will vote today in New York, at 17.00 local time (23.00 in Italy), the draft resolution put forward by the United States in favor of a new global plan for a ceasefire in Gaza and formation of a International Stabilization Force accompanied by an “apolitical” Palestinian government, under the supervision of a Peace Council chaired by the American president Donald Trump. At least the text requires it nine votes in favour to be approved, but its fate remains uncertain veto power from China and Russiawhich has put forward alternative proposals in recent days.

Ahead of the vote, in Israel Political tensions are increasing. Minister of Public Security, Itamar Ben-Gvir openly called for the arrest of the Palestinian president Mahmud Abbas And “targeted killing” against senior Palestinian National Authority officials if the UN approves international recognition of a Palestinian state.

On the other hand, Hamas and other armed factions outright rejected the US plan. Hamas defines the possibility of international power”imposed foreign trusts” and called for humanitarian aid and distribution to remain managed by Palestinian institutions under UN supervision. The factions also reiterated their rejection of any clause that implied disarmament or limits on “right of resistance,” instead called for international mechanisms to ensure legal accountability for human rights violations and border control policies.

In the Glass Palace, the US ambassador Mike Waltz issued a warning to Council members, arguing that failure to approve the plan amounted to “support Hamas or return to

war“.”Any refusal to support this resolution means supporting the dominance of Hamas terrorists or returning to war with Israel, thereby leading to protracted conflict in the region.”, he said.
