Gennevilliers: while driving his van, he escaped police inspection and hit a cyclist

He ended his crazy race by crashing into a cyclist. A delivery man in a van was arrested this Saturday evening in Gennevilliers (Hauts-de-Seine) for endangering others, refusing to comply, driving despite a suspended license and under the influence of drugs, following a chase.

It was around 7pm. This Saturday when a municipal police patrol from Asnières-sur-Seine noticed that the 31-year-old man’s vehicle was parked in the traffic lane of rue Olympe-de-Gouges in Asnières, so that disabled people could not access the parking space reserved for people with limited mobility.

“What did I do,” repeated the suspect in shock

When the delivery man returned, two city police officers asked for his vehicle papers, which he pretended to search in the passenger compartment before rushing to drive the van.

A chase then began, with city police following him at a considerable distance while trying to maintain contact. After traveling for about one kilometer, the driver lost control of the vehicle after approaching a speed bump too quickly and hit the cyclist hard at 202, rue des Caboeufs in Gennevilliers.

Arriving at the location, Satpol PP immediately arrested the driver who was handcuffed. In his state of shock, according to city police, the officer kept saying “what have I done!” “, but not injured.

The victim suffered multiple fractures

Unfortunately, the cyclist who gets hit in the epilogue of this crazy ride can’t say the same. Due to polytrauma and suffering from fractures of the chest, stomach and legs, the victim was transported in an emergency with a motorbike escort by Samu to the Pitié-Salpêtrière hospital in Paris (13th century).

At the time of transport and upon arrival at the hospital, the vital prognosis of this man, aged about forty years and living in Asnières-sur-Seine, was in jeopardy. This is no longer the case this Sunday, but the forty year old has been prescribed ITT for 15 days as a precaution.

Known for road offences, the suspect, a resident of Ivry-sur-Seine (Val-de-Marne), continued to drive even though his license was revoked and tested positive for narcotics while in police custody this Saturday.

In June 2024, a 34-year-old man was hit in Clamart by a 14-year-old driving a stolen car. However, the victim died from his injuries.
