That Berlin Polar Bear couldn’t stop ERC Ingolstadt’s winning streak. On Wednesday evening, the German champions lost 2:5 (0:1, 0:2, 2:2) to the new leaders of the German Ice Hockey League (DEL). It was Bayern’s ninth consecutive win.
Blaine Byron and Liam Kirk scored for the capital side, who could only pose a threat to the new leaders in the final third.
In front of 3,863 spectators at the Ingolstadt Arena, the visitors were awarded a first-time penalty early on and were under pressure from the start. Riley Barber gave the home team the lead in the fifth minute after Berlin lost the ball in their own zone.
Berliners’ efforts to catch up were unsuccessful
Since the Ingolstadt team also had to go to the penalty box more often, Eisbären found the game a little better. But the hosts remained dangerous on the counter-attack and were able to extend their lead 36 seconds after the half-time break thanks to Austen Keating’s successful solo effort. Kenny Agostino made it 3-0 (37′) with another quick move.
Only in the final round were the Berliners able to improve themselves and create tension again through goals from Byron (42) and Kirk (50). However, Peter Abbandonato (59) and Alex Breton (60) ensured Ingolstadt’s victory with their late goals.
