German Ice Hockey League: Eisbären Berlin won 4-2 against Frankfurt

That Berlin Polar Bear also won their second game after the German Cup break in the German Ice Hockey League (DEL). On Sunday, the German champion won against Löwen Frankfurt 4:2 (1:0, 1:1, 2:1). Leo Pföderl scored twice, Ty Ronning and Yannick Veilleux also scored for the capital.

In front of 12,915 spectators at the Arena Ostbahnhof, the home team struggled early, although the visitors received several time penalties early on. Shortly after the end of the third power play, Ronning gave Berlin the lead (14th).

In the second quarter, the hosts increased their lead through Pföderl’s goal (22), but then came under increasing pressure. Maksim Matushkin scored Frankfurt’s first goal (26), while the home team missed several good counter-attacking opportunities.

The polar bears also got off to a better start at the end. Pföderl was able to celebrate his second goal because the visiting player directed the national player’s cross into his own net (42). Noah Dunham brought the Hessians closer again (49′), but Veilleux ensured Eisbären’s victory after Frankfurt goalkeeper Mirko Pantkowski came off the field and picked out an extra field player (59′).
