The “Gerresheim Winter Wonders” plan with a Ferris wheel and a flying Santa Claus has failed. The city government rejected the permit application. The reason.
On Tuesday (November 11), the city of Düsseldorf rejected the application for approval for the “Gerresheimer Winterzauber” plan on the glass factory site, as “NRZ” reported. Organizers have almost halved the area originally planned for the newly planned Christmas market due to city requirements. However, after the changes were made, the organizers did not submit any documents required for approval.
The winter wonderland is supposed to offer a special concept – “a Christmas market like no other” with a Ferris wheel, ice skating show and a medieval market. According to the organizers’ website, a flying Santa Claus, live performances and street food offerings are also part of the plan.
However, until now, there has been no preparatory work at the glass work site. Ambitious plans for a Christmas market in Gerresheim were already faltering before the municipality took a decision. Skepticism from many interested parties spread across the Christmas market’s Facebook page.
As comments on social media mounted, the organizer, Maus Event GmbH, said: They have reduced the area and program, canceled certain rides such as the “Top Spin” and “Ice & Aura” shows and only want to use 35,000 square meters instead of the original 60,000. On Tuesday evening, according to the “Rheinischer Post” on Facebook, the managing director said the following: “We are truly on the brink of extinction.”
