Two and a half years ago he published a six-song EP, La mia voci vol.2, as if to signal (r)’s existence. However, Fabrizio Moro has not released an album containing songs that have not been released for six years. Infinity, like the discography created today: «I have reached the fruit. I feel like a switch went off”, admits the 50-year-old Roman singer-songwriter, who grew up in the San Basilio district. To find his passion again in recent years, Fabrizio Moro had to start doing something other than music. In 2022 he makes his directorial debut with Ghiaccio, followed in 2024 by Tuesdays and Fridays. He now turns the switch back on with the new album, I’m not afraid of anything, which is out today (“But only in physical formats, CD and vinyl, as was”). A real album, this time, with ten songs “born of internal frustration”. Among them is also the new single Scatole. Today at 6 pm Moro will meet the fans at Feltrinelli on Via Appia Nuova in Rome and the tour will start from the Capital, from the Palazzo dello Sport, on May 2, 2026.
What internal frustration are you talking about?
“I was afraid that I had nothing more to say. The generational change in music also had something to do with it. The transition from analogue to digital was a heavy blow for people my age. When in September I released the single that became the title of the album, I was not afraid of anything, another 49 songs were released on the same day: I grew up in a different world.”
What space can your generation occupy in the current scenario?
“There’s no room. We just have to keep doing what we’ve always done, with coherence and determination, not caring about the logic of the discography. That’s what I did. This is a record that Fabrizio Moro could have written twenty years ago. I have recovered my sources of inspiration. Like Vasco. Just listen to the guitar with chorus and reverb Casa mia, inspired by his records of the 80s. I even added saxophone.”
How do you find that spark again?
“To let out that inner frustration. By putting myself aside, I risk destroying everything I’ve built. That would be a masochistic attitude. The desire to make music also eluded me because my previous record company did nothing but talk to me about numbers, numbers on platforms and views”.
Has he changed labels?
“Yes. Today I am a Bmg artist. In my new album I found a warmth and closeness that I no longer felt. So I also rediscovered the tone of the compositions. The affection of the public that continues to come to my concerts does the rest. This means that I sow well. If you adapt to what the musical panorama wants to offer you, you risk failing or appearing ridiculous. On the album there is a duet Prima di Tomorrow with Il Tre, a very talented Roman rapper with whom I also accompany. Sanremo. But I will never perform a trap song.”
Who is Simone from the song Simone Spaccia?
“I often write songs about characters who are interested in my existence, with whom I share a past. I like doing it because through them I can talk about the social context in which I was born and raised. I don’t like to generalize: I want to specify that there are characters like Simone, but there are also other characters who are not like Simone. I feel like a miracle worker.”
Why?
«I already told about my past in detail (“For years I abused alcohol and drugs. I started when I was 18”, he said in 2018, ed.). I’ve almost died many times. In fact, I’m not a drug promoter: I hate drugs. Those who promote drugs should be beaten.”
Are you angry with rappers and trappers?
“Not only that. Even those who made TV series focused on it, which has become a reference for many children. Then seven of them found themselves beating each other, shooting each other: they no longer understood the difference between fiction and real life. I believe that drugs are the worst experience a teenager can have: the worst thing that happened to me because of drugs. I also talk about work: if I was late in achieving success and did not get everything I deserved, it was because I was not thinking clearly. I hope my son (Libero, 16 years old, ed.) is not too reckless compared to me.”
It’s that time of year: Sanremo yes, Sanremo no?
“I don’t believe it. It has changed. Today there are too many TV shows. I’m afraid the beautiful songs there are no longer appreciated.”
