A prison guard was attacked this Wednesday morning at the Nice (Alpes-Maritimes) pre-trial detention center, the Nice prosecutor’s office told Le Parisien early in the afternoon. According to the FO Justice union, and as confirmed by the city attorney’s office, this occurred “after a simple cell change.” An investigation has been opened.
“The agent was taken to the emergency room by staff from the institution,” said Nice prosecutor Damien Martinelli, without being able to provide further information about his health condition.

According to FO Justice, the prison guard tried to “trigger his portable alarm,” but was “unsuccessful.” “Our colleagues were unable to provide immediate warning,” FO Justice said. “Taking advantage of this moment, the prisoner continued to beat him with extreme violence,” he continued.

The information we have obtained is that the detainee suspected of carrying out this attack will be detained on Wednesday afternoon. The Nice prosecutor’s office has opened “an overt investigation into the worsening violence”.

“This incident once again illustrates the dangerous conditions in which staff work every day. The strike was called during the afternoon shift to condemn this new aggression and demand immediate answers regarding the safety of agents and the reliability of equipment,” FO Justice reacted.
