In the city forest of Cologne, a dog bit a goose until it nearly died. Injured animals must be operated on.
A dog apparently attacked a young swan in a pond in the Cologne city forest and seriously injured the animal. This was reported by the organization “Schwäne Köln” on Facebook. Therefore, the young goose was sitting in the meadow on Saturday when a free-roaming dog attacked it. The six-month-old bird could no longer escape and the dog then tore a gaping hole in its stomach – a large wound that bled profusely, as documented in photos.
According to witnesses, the dog’s owner hid behind a tree during the attack and then “took off.” “The dog was relatively large, with a lot of fur, mottled with gray,” said “Schwäne Köln”. “Unfortunately, no one called the police because of the excitement.”
The young goose was immediately taken to an avian veterinarian’s practice, where he was initially quarantined and operated on. The next few days should show whether the swan survived.
The organization urges all dog owners to keep their animals on a leash to avoid such incidents. “To defend itself, the goose raised its wings to attack, but then the dog bit its stomach. That’s why almost all the wounds occurred under the stomach and wings,” continued the Facebook post.
