King’s Forest – Drivers can breathe a sigh of relief: The renovation of the A4 Königshainer Berge tube near Görlitz is almost complete. If the test is successful, traffic will resume rolling via the southbound tube towards Görlitz from December 14, according to Autobahn GmbH.

Comprehensive renovation work has been underway since March 2024. Since then, traffic has been running on one lane, alternating through one lane, while work is being carried out on the other.

Safer for drivers

The building has been updated with the latest technology – safety requirements have increased significantly since its completion in 1999. There is now a new emergency call booth and additional fire sensors. Before we start, the technology must be checked and a final fire test must be carried out.

The northern route to Dresden has been under construction since February 2025. But even after the southern route opened, only one lane remained on the northern route until mid-January.

The mobile partition must be dismantled

The reason: Traffic flow needed to be reorganized, including the removal of mobile partition walls. If all tests are successful, there will be “free travel” via the tube south to Görlitz from December 14.
