The Bundesliga handball players from SC DHfK Leipzig were unable to stop their negative streak even when their new coach Frank Carstens made his debut. The Leipzig team lost at VfL Gummersbach in the evening with a time of 27:34 (12:19) and is still at the bottom of the standings without a win with 2:24 points. Right fielder Lucas Krzikalla was SC DHfK’s best pitcher with seven goals.
The visitors started the game with determination and created the basis for a 4-2 lead (8th minute) with their strong defensive work. But as a result, they generate a lot of technical errors and also weaken their fallback behavior.
The Gummersbachers turned an early deficit into an 11:4 lead (17th) with a 9-0 score. But Carstens’ protégé showed spirit and fought back to equalize at 23:25 in the 49th minute, thanks to a powerful push from playmaker Ahmed Khairi. In the final phase, national player Julian Köster took responsibility for VfL and secured a deserved home win.
