Having resolved the scholastic problems by the Ministry of Education, Nathan and Catherine are now trying by all means to make themselves “in order” to get their children back, filling the void that led to the order of the L’Aquila juvenile court ordering the removal of the three young children from the family in the Palmoli forest, in the province of Chieti, without changing their chosen lifestyle. And precisely in support of that lifestyle, which includes parental education and, inevitably, little contact between children and their peers, Catherine talks about one of the books she uses to educate her children which, according to the woman, “is just one of many books that confirms the correctness of the way of raising children that we have chosen instinctively”.
STUDIES
The book in question is entitled “Your children need you”, written by Gordon Neufeld and Gabor Matè, a psychologist and a doctor, who argue that close contact with parents is much more important than with peers for the healthy development of children. In the expulsion order, judge L’Aquila pointed to the “injury to the right to social life”, and underlined that “the absence of comparison between peers at primary school age can have a significant impact on a child’s development”, as “peer groups are a fundamental context of socialization and cognitive/emotional development, offering unique opportunities compared to interactions with adults”. The book, one of many in which Catherine participated, explains instead that “the play that children need for healthy development is play that occurs in creative solitude, not in social solitude” and that “in this case children need adults more than their peers.”
A lifestyle that Nathan and Catherine strongly support that however, in order to reunite their family, they are willing to change. The Anglo-Australian family lawyer, Giovanni Angelucci, relied on a trusted professional with whom he met with the manager of the technical office of the Municipality of Palmoli to discuss the family home modification project which involved expanding the farmhouse with the construction of a bathroom connected to the main house and a room for the children (currently, the farmhouse does not have a toilet and consists of one room). The draft project, along with new testimony supporting the family and a request for a psychological evaluation of the minor could be part of an appeal attorneys will file Nov. 29 against the court order.
SOLIDARITY
While Catherine is in the safe house with her children, Nathan is currently the guest of some friends from the neo-rural community, to avoid contact with journalists and onlookers after the “press silence” announced two days ago with the aim of protecting the children (one of the accusations that the court brought against the couple was that the children had been exposed to media hype). Meanwhile, the Mayor of Palmoli, Rosario Masciulli, has provided the family with a new house equipped with all services, but closer to the family’s lifestyle in the forest than the one the Municipality offered them in the city center last year, where they will be able to stay in their home until the work is completed. Who knows, this time the couple will accept it. Nathan seems to agree, but his wife disagrees. And the mayor commented: “They are very stiff.”
