The body of a popular fisherman from San Diego (United States), missing since November 11, was found lifeless in Mexican waters on Sunday, November 16, his family announced on the GoFundMe page created to finance the search.
Best known for his YouTube channel SD Fish and Sips, Mikey Rijavec was traveling off the coast of Baja California (Mexico), about fifteen kilometers from the coast, when he launched a distress call from his small 4.25 m boat. For a week, private boat owners, the Mexican Navy and the US Coast Guard rushed to help with the search.
The YouTuber’s boat was experiencing engine problems, according to NBC News. While trying to repair it, he lost the engine, causing the boat to capsize. Although he managed to repair the boat, it eventually took on water. “We don’t know anything about what happened to Mikey after that,” his family added on GoFundMe.
His body was found a day after the search ended
His turquoise boat was found empty after four days of searching. His body was only found on Sunday, a day after his family stopped searching the waters near San Cristóbal.

“Mikey was attentive and present every day, which allowed him to live longer than could be measured on a calendar,” the GoFundMe page reads. “Mikey prepared us to face this trial, and if we follow his example, we will not only get through this, but we will emerge stronger.”
On YouTube, via his SD Fish and Sips page, Mikey Rijavec shares his love of fishing in videos that have nearly 20,000 subscribers. Her last video was dated November 3, eight days before she disappeared.
