Head-on collision in Bergamo, 3 dead. Possible causes of risky overtaking – News

Risky overtaking and possibly at high speed, on a stretch of Bergamo’s southern ring road that has been the site of several accidents – including a fatal crash last February – would be the origin of the collision between a car and a van that, this morning after 7am, led to the deaths of three people: two young people who were in the car and the driver of the other vehicle. The two young men were traveling in a Mercedes Cla 220 D: Clinton Sala, 23, a Melzo native of Milan, was driving and sitting next to him was his friend Denis Cannata, 21, born in Lodi. The two, who live in Gessate, province of Milan, continued their journey towards Seriate: near the Stezzano area, not far from the entrance to the Dalmine A4 toll road and the shopping center ‘Le 2 Torri’, the Mercedes apparently overtook the car in front of it, a Hyundai driven by two women aged 55 and 56 years. Just at that moment, a Citroen Berlingo came from the opposite direction driven by Oscar Angioletti, 62, from Zanica, in the Bergamo area, with his brother Giuseppe, 64, from Urgnano next door.

The impact was unavoidable and devastating, with the Mercedes and Berlingo colliding and both cars then careening down the middle of the road without involving the car carrying the two women inside, who remained uninjured but in a state of shock. The 112 alarm was immediately raised, and went off at 7.20am: several 118 vehicles arrived on the straight stretch of Bergamo’s southern ring road – three medical vehicles and three ambulances – as well as six fire teams. For the drivers of the two vehicles involved in the accident there was nothing that could be done: unfortunately efforts to resuscitate Clinton Sala and Oscar Angioletti proved futile. In fact, they remained trapped in the cockpit of their vehicle: firefighters also intervened to get them out, explaining that they in turn “did their best to try to resuscitate one of the occupants of the vehicle involved”.

The passenger of the Mercedes in distraught condition was transferred to the Papa Giovanni XXIII hospital in Bergamo, where his death was later confirmed. The passenger of the Berlingo was seriously injured, but not life-threatening, and was also hospitalized at the Papa Giovanni hospital, where he initially arrived under code red in ambulance 118. Carabinieri from Bergamo’s mobile radio unit intervened to reconstruct the dynamics of the accident. To allow the survey to be carried out, the road remained closed for approximately three hours: it is one of the busiest arteries in Bergamo province and crosses the central plains south of the capital, connecting the Seriana valley to the Brembana valley. In the same place last February Gianluigi Cattaneo lost his life at the age of 33: in this case too, the genesis was a risky overtaking at a rather dangerous point of the road due to poor visibility especially when overtaking (which was therefore prohibited). Oscar Angioletti’s body has been returned to his family: his wife, two children and his elderly mother. His funeral is scheduled for Tuesday afternoon, 15.00, at the Zanica parish church. However, the date and time of the funeral for the two boys driving the Mercedes is not yet known. In the afternoon in Ossona, Milan area, a man died in a head-on collision between two cars and 4 children traveling together were taken to hospital in a non-serious condition.
