Curious theft
Thieves broke through the ceiling twice in the casino
A man wants to rob a casino in Hesse. But the coup goes badly – and the man has to wait until the police arrive.
A suspected thief unsuccessfully attempted to escape from a casino in Schöneck, Hesse: Not once, but twice, the 34-year-old fell from the ceiling into the building before he was caught by police. The man was acting artistically but had no luck, police wrote.
The thief is locked up in the casino until caught
According to officials, the man hid in the arcade shortly before it closed. The staff assumed it was empty and locked it. The man took the day’s earnings from the cash register. Since he couldn’t get through locked doors when escaping, he looked for an exit through false ceilings and roofs.
Police wrote that he broke through a false ceiling into the room. “Several broken sections of the suspended ceiling are proof of that.” But that’s not all: In order not to be discovered, the 34-year-old man then hid in a false ceiling.
It is said that he went unnoticed there when the police took a report in the morning. An emergency call came in the afternoon: “Someone fell through the ceiling here,” the police said something like that. Employees locked the suspected thief in the casino until police arrived.
According to police, he only suffered minor injuries in the two incidents. “The material damage caused is estimated at several thousand euros,” he said.
