“After the episode Entry WeekI will have surgery”, those words Mara Venier during the episode airing on Sunday November 10. Photos are displayed on the screen Nino D’Angelo, his guest in the studio in Venice but the presenter revealed that he couldn’t see it well: “Today was a bit difficult for me, it’s better I say it straight. I have a problem with me maculopathy. I’m sorry if I missed some pictures, sometimes I can’t see them. Excuse me.”

“It’s better to say it right away, because during the episode there might be a small accident and I can ask my classmates for help,” he explained Venier who in the last year has undergone several operations due to eye problems. “I have just started shooting the film diamond From Ferzan Ozpetek when I feel discomfort in one eye. I saw badly, blurred and one evening, in front of the TV, I realized that I could only see on one side. I had retinal hemorrhage caused by a pathology, exudative maculopathy“, he said to the weekly magazine Gente last January.

After the discovery, he underwent a first emergency operation, knowing he would have to undergo another operation: “Professor Cusumano had told me that I could no longer see out of my right eye, but instead I recovered a little. I should have remained calm and quiet but I was beating myself up like crazyI work a lot, I never save myself and I travel on and off trains between Rome and Milan”, he told the newspaper edited by Umberto Brindani.

What is maculopathy? It is an eye pathology associated with degeneration of the central retina and in particular the macula, a part rich in photoreceptors, nerve cells that are sensitive to light. If the macula is damaged, there are significant consequences for vision. Exudative (wet) maculopathy. This is due to the presence of new capillaries which, if broken, will bleed and serum on the retina and destroy the macula.
