It is with regret that actor James Van Der Beek, who revealed in the late 1990s in the series “Dawson”, part of the treasures he kept throughout his career. But the 48-year-old American had no other choice to pay for treatment for stage 3 colon cancer which he was diagnosed with last year.
“I’ve kept this treasure for years, waiting for the right time to sell it. And considering the unexpected twists and turns life has had in store for me lately, indeed, the time has come,” James Van Der Beek explained to People magazine.
The cost is $150,000 per patient treated for cancer
Among the items on sale from December 5 to 7 in London (England), the flannel shirt that he used to wear in “Dawson”, the necklace that his character gave to Joey (played by Katie Holmes) for the prom in the series or even the hat worn in the movie “Varsity Blues”, in 1999.
“While I feel a certain nostalgia at parting with these objects, I am delighted to be able to offer them for auction at Propstore and share them with those who have supported my work over the years,” explains James Van Der Beek.
This auction is the second held by the actor since he was revealed to be suffering from colon cancer in November 2024. A painful decision for the actor that highlights the extremely high costs of cancer treatment in the United States.
According to the National Cancer Institute, the bill reached more than $208 billion nationally in 2020, at a cost of $150,000 per patient, The Guardian noted.
