You can’t always fix what’s broken. From this sad evidence the G-Shock watch was born, in 1983. A model that has now become a cult, available in thousands of versions and collected all over the world. Engineer Kikuo Ibe was the inventor. As a young engineer for the Japanese Casio group, he was determined to create an unbreakable watch, capable of withstanding any kind of fall or accident.
“When I started my studies, my father gave me a watch that I loved more than anything. I dropped it, it broke, and it was impossible to repair. The watch was not worth much, but it was my most prized possession. From this unfortunate incident emerged my obsession, laughed Kikuo Ibe, a dashing middle-aged man, passing through Paris one September morning.
He is set to join his fans for two days at a venue specially designed for the event, where hundreds of watches are on display. A “European tour” that will also stop in Lyon, Hamburg and Copenhagen.
200 prototypes

For nearly two years, he worked hard to create his indestructible watch. “Day after day, I built prototypes and threw them out the bathroom window on the third floor of Casio’s office. They were all wrapped in shock absorbers, but they shattered one by one as they landed on the concrete.” he remembered.
