“I want to motivate young people to preserve agriculture”: will Louis, a 23-year-old Breton, be elected Mister France Agricole?

Driven by the desire to motivate the younger generation like him, both from the world of agriculture and not, Louis Michalot decided to take part in the Mister France agricultural competition.

“I do it not only for the younger generation, but also their families who are afraid of the difficulty of working in this sector. I know that many of the younger generation want to go into agriculture, but their parents are against it. Of course it is difficult, but we have to preserve agriculture in all its forms. In 5 or 6 years, many operators will retire and we have to ensure succession.”

“Passionate about livestock genetics and competition”

Currently at the agricultural BTS at Breholou secondary school in Fouesnant, the young man is apprenticed to Earl Moysan De La Roche in Bannalec. “I don’t come from a farming family at all, but my grandfather had a lot of animals and I wanted to be an animal keeper at a zoo.”

To make his dream come true, he enrolled in a baccalaureate program in agriculture in 2021. He then took another course and, two years later, returned to his first love. Because he was interested in genetics and livestock competition, he decided to become a livestock inseminator.

In his eyes, the younger generation must invest, not necessarily in livestock or crops. “There are opportunities even if you don’t set up your own business.”

The young man will be the only Finisterian running in the elections that will take place in several stages, mainly on social networks. “On the competition website you can see portraits and presentations of the candidates. There are also events for juniors. Later, people are free to choose their favorite candidate.”

“I won’t be asked to parade around in a swimsuit!”

The second step will be decisive. “On November 28, I will know if I am selected. If the result is positive, and I hope it is, I will have to record a video, answering the questions asked by the jury. So this is a question about my personality and about agriculture. I will not be asked to parade in a swimsuit! And the final results will be announced on the night of the selection of Miss France 2026, December 6. This is a great symbol” the candidate smiled, too motivated.

And who carefully chooses his clothes in the portrait wearing a Concarneau peasant costume. This is because Louis has also been a member of the Concarne Celtic circle since he was 6 years old and was part of a group of stage dancers. “Wearing this costume is important to me. Between the traditional side and the sustainability of agriculture, everything is interrelated.”

Ruling on December 6

On December 6, the jury, consisting of agricultural professionals and winners of last year’s competition, will face the difficult task of determining the winner who can wear the famous tricolor scarf.

Miss and Mr Agriculture 2026 will then have the honor of being ambassadors for the world of agriculture at prestigious exhibitions and fairs. “We will be able to show the positive side of this profession” smiles Louis, supported by his entire family, his loved ones and Breholou secondary school.
