Francesco Totti And Noemi Bocchi investigated by the Rome Prosecutor’s Office for child neglect. The investigation started with a complaint Ilary Blasi who, during five video calls lasting a total of half an hour with her youngest daughter with her ex-husband and dated May 26, 2023, saw the little girl at the home of her father and his new partner but without any adults present. The mother asked her twice if she was alone and why, the little girl answered yes and “they went to dinner for a while”.
Francesco Totti’s daughter was left alone at home: Noemi Bocchi and her nanny “who covered them up by making false statements” are also under investigation
Faced with requests for the Prosecutor’s dismissal, attorney Ilary Blasi filed a detailed denial, accompanied by an independent defensive investigation. These activities include the interrogation of nanny Mandica Cocos by lawyer Fabio Lattanzi, which is included in the document along with a video recorded by Isabel.
Testimony
Mandica Cocos’ answer was questioned by Fabio Lattanzi, Blasi’s lawyer, reported by Repubblica. The woman admitted to having an “occasional” working relationship with her family: “I go ironing or babysitting”. How is he paid? “Ten euros an hour, but this is not unusual.” Not to mention black? “Yes”. The interrogation is at the heart of the judicial dispute between the former Roma captain and Ilary Blasi regarding the hypothesis of child neglect related to the night of May 26, 2023. Statements made in Blasi’s defense and videos recorded by his daughter Isabel are currently at the center of the rejection of the request for dismissal filed by the Roma Prosecutor’s Office.
Mandica’s position itself has been investigated on charges of providing a version of the facts that does not match the documents, although the Prosecutor’s Office has also asked for Mandica to be dismissed.
The evening of May 26, 2023
According to the document, the story took place on the evening of May 26, 2023, when Totti and Bocchi left home, leaving three children in the attic of North Rome: Isabel, 7 years old, and her partner’s two children, aged 9 and 11 years. The youngest spent part of the evening video calling his mother, connecting several times for a total of about half an hour, while she talked about eating sushi and showed him some of the rooms in the apartment.
It was during one of these phone calls that Isabel, pressed by her mother’s questions, uttered a sentence that Blasi’s defense argued would undermine the couple’s alibi: to the question “But why are you alone?”, the little girl answered “They went to dinner for a while”.
At that moment one of Bocchi’s sons appears in the picture, while the other daughter is not visible, and no adults appear in the video.
Mandica Cocos, nanny “in black”
In the report compiled by Lattanzi’s attorney, the first questions focused on who called him that night and how many people were present at the home. Mandica claims that she does not remember whether it was Francesco Totti or Noemi Bocchi who contacted her, but mentions that there were “three” children in the apartment when she arrived.
Based on the schedule, the nanny estimated her arrival at around 9pm, and claimed that Totti and Bocchi were still at home when she arrived. When asked if the children were asleep, the answer was clear: yes, the children were asleep and she “didn’t even see them” that night, because she only went upstairs to iron.
Blasi’s attorney emphasized this: it seems strange, in the logic of the defense, that someone called to examine the children did not directly verify their condition, and simply believed what the parents reported. Mandica reiterated that someone would show her that the minor children were sleeping and, once she went upstairs, she would resume household chores without further inspection.
When asked whether, during the night, any of the children woke up or walked around the house, the nanny answered no, stating that she did not notice any movement or sounds that would remind her of children around the apartment. This data contradicts the video obtained by the defense, which shows children Isabel and Bocchi waking up, intending to move and record a room in the attic.
Isabel’s video
During interrogation, the lawyer showed Mandica a video taken during a video call between Isabel and her mother. In one of the questions, “Are you still alone?”, the little girl answered in the affirmative, while in another the mother asked: “Has daddy arrived?”, hearing the answer “No”. The lawyer asked Mandica how this narrative could be reconciled with her version, which stated that she was already inside the house, upstairs, while the minor children were asleep. The nanny replied that, from where she was ironing, separated from the rest of the house by a staircase and two rooms, she would not hear or see the children, although she admitted that Isabel would say she was alone with Noemi’s children.
The next part concerns the fact that Isabel, in the video, never mentions the nanny’s presence, only referring to herself and the Bocchi children. The attorney underscored this omission, asking Mandica how she interpreted the fact that the little girl did not mention any adults in the house. The woman’s response was “maybe they didn’t tell her I was there”, indicating that the children may not have considered her an important figure to mention to their mother or that they were unaware of her actual arrival. Furthermore, in the nanny’s account, Isabel walked around the house carrying the phone without her realizing it, a circumstance that raised doubts in Blasi’s defense about the real presence of adults at key moments of the evening.
Police arrival
The sequence of police arrivals began when, around 11 p.m., Blasi called her mother, Daniela Serafini, asking her to tell police that her three children were home alone. The patrol arrived on the scene approximately 40 minutes later, and discovered a situation that to the District Attorney’s Office did not constitute a real danger to the safety of minors, but to Blasi’s defense, it amounted to prolonged neglect over time.
According to some reports, the documents also show an access time to the building that would place the nanny’s arrival very close to the agents’ presence, and not at 9 p.m. as claimed by the woman, an element that prosecutors considered important in evaluating differences in the versions. It was precisely this discrepancy that became one of the grounds for Blasi’s rejection of the request for dismissal, with a hearing held before a judge to discuss the fate of the file.
Position of the Prosecutor’s Office and Totti’s lawyer
According to the Rome Prosecutor’s Office, the images do not contain details of the crime of child neglect, although it is known that the three children were left alone between 9 pm and midnight. The judge highlighted that Isabel had a telephone with which to contact her mother, who was accompanied by older children of the same age and that her nanny, although not always at the house, was considered “likely” to be available immediately from the same building.
Totti’s lawyer, Gianluca Tognozzi, defined the dismissal request as a “timely justified” action and assessed the criminal initiative as “instrumental” in connection with the civil litigation regarding the ongoing divorce between the former captain and Blasi. The Prosecutor’s Office itself observed that the mother, although concerned, only contacted the police at around 23.00, after remaining in contact with her daughter for approximately one and a half hours, believing that this behavior was inconsistent with the perception of imminent danger.
