Île-de-France regional councilor Philippe Juraver died of a “rapid” cancer.

Île-de-France regional councilor and rebel activist Philippe Juraver died at the age of 65, his political group announced this Wednesday in

Philippe Juraver has been retired from the Paris transport authority (RATP) since 2012, where he worked as a salesman and train engineer for almost 20 years, mainly on the RER B line, and was a member of a union involved with the CGT.

After leaving the Ile-de-France transport, Philippe Juraver became involved with France Insoumise, becoming a candidate for the 2019 European elections or legislative elections in the Massy di Essonne constituency, in 2017.

“Philippe embodies the most humane aspects of our commitment: loyalty to the cause, real solidarity, militant brotherhood” and he brings “the voices of those we never and rarely hear,” his political group said.

A “tireless activist”

He was “a good, warm and committed man”, the Left Party recalled in »

“He never once failed to be at the forefront of solidarity when the workers called him. Gentle and kind to everyone, he was a fierce fighter, motivating and convincing,” underlined Insoumis Jean-Luc Mélenchon on Facebook.

Jérôme Guedj, the socialist deputy for Essonne where Philippe Juraver proposed, was in contact with him during his hospitalisation, moved to X by the “terrible” news and sharing his “disappointment” and “sadness”.

The president of the regional council of Île-de-France, Valérie Pécresse, on the same social network, shared her “sadness” over the “brutal death of Philippe Juraver”. And added: “He will dedicate his life to defending the dignity of work.”
