“I’m Lorenzo Fragola, I’m 30 years old and when I grow up I want to be a singer.” With these words the former X Factor winner opened his intense monologue to Le Iene, telling his story of success, pain and sudden rebirth.
“Yes, I am Lorenzo Fragola and no, I am not dead”, the singer began. “No, I say this because maybe some of you have asked this or maybe you don’t know me yet. So, I will tell you my story. A 19 year old student far from home who almost by chance auditioned for
Then, the race to success: “Everything is wonderful, isn’t it? Of course, I asked myself some questions, but everyone told me ‘You have to strike while the iron is hot’. And then the new single, the interview, the radio, the second album, the summer hit. You want to stop to understand who you are, what you have become after everything that happened to you, but you can’t and so you run, run because you’re afraid it will all end and so I despair, it’s all over.”
The singer later recalled one of the darkest periods of his life: “Then the death of my father, depression, panic attacks, it was all over and I lost. Then a very slow, very difficult recovery, consisting of time, attention, love and in my case music”, he explained.
Fragola shares four reflections that he believes may be helpful for those in a similar situation: “First, victory has many fathers, but defeat is an orphan and often the blame falls on the more fragile shoulders. Most importantly, it’s not over until it’s over and it won’t be over until you still have a drop of gas and most importantly, you’re clear on the real goal, to enjoy the ride.”
“I am Lorenzo Fragola, I am now 30 years old, I am more alive than ever and when I grow up I want to be a singer”, concluded the singer.
