Over the past twenty years, motherhood has become safer for millions of women. According to data from 195 countries and territories, analyzed by the World Health Organization (WHO) and leading universities, between 2000 and 2023, pregnancy and childbirth-related deaths decreased by 41%, from around 443,000 to 260,000 per year. This increase is largely due to advances in science and knowledge in the medical field, but also due to a decline in fertility and the possibility of access to safer abortions.
