Renowned for her teaching qualities, Randi Nicole Staples is actually a monster. This 44 year old woman, a teacher in Mobile, Alabama (United States), received the “teacher of the year” award last May. But this Wednesday, he was arrested and charged with intentional abuse of a child under 18 years of age.
A viral video showing him hitting his 12-year-old son 22 times with what appeared to be a belt sent him over the edge, reports Wear ABC 3 News, ABC’s local affiliate. It was another family member who immortalized the violence he witnessed and published the filmed moments on Facebook. The video circulated on social networks for a while. The teacher also shouted at his child, threw him to the ground, pulled his hair while crying in pain.
“It’s almost like a split personality”
Jackson Staples, the 40-year-old woman’s oldest son, who is 24 and no longer lives with her, said the teenager was punished because he did not complete his work. “He didn’t clean the kitchen like he was supposed to, he left, went to a neighbor’s house, came back and that’s when things escalated,” he said, as reported by Fox 10 News. He found it “unacceptable that he (his mother) works at school or he does it at (his) younger brother. He has done this to me my whole life.”
Mobile County Sheriff Pau Burch called the action “abuse.” “It’s almost like a split personality. Because from all sides, I was told that he was a good and highly respected teacher. But what was happening at home was clearly the opposite,” he added.
