Jerome Boateng comments on the death of his ex-girlfriend Kasia Lenhardt | sport

Former national player Jérôme Boateng spoke for the first time in more detail about the death of his ex-girlfriend Kasia Lenhardt († 25).

In the three-part documentary “Being Jérôme Boateng,” which will be broadcast on ARD on Friday, the 37-year-old said: “I have lost someone I love very much.”

Boateng further explained: “I realized publicly that I was somewhat denied my right to grieve. Only I can answer what someone looked like. I’m still processing the death.”

Lenhardt committed suicide in Berlin in February 2021.

The relationship between the Bayern professional and the former “Germany’s Next Top Model” finalist has been making headlines for months.

Shortly after the breakup, Boateng gave an interview on BILD in which he accused his ex-girlfriend. Six days later, Lenhardt committed suicide. “What is clear and obvious to me is that in hindsight, I misjudged the situation and should have handled it better – in a different way,” Boateng said.

The 2014 world champion said this error in judgment would haunt him for the rest of his life.

BILD editor-in-chief Johannes Boie also distanced himself from the publication, telling Correctiv and SZ: “We will no longer publish this interview today.”
