John Cockerill attracts researchers to his defense campus

This is a new episode for John Cockerill’s Defense in Commercy. After welcoming, hosting and training 400 Saudi soldiers on its weapons systems over the past four years, the campus, which was established at the former headquarters of the eighth artillery regiment, opened itself to new research and development activities.

In an unprecedented partnership with the University of Lorraine, on November 12, the Belgian industrialist presented a series of technologies that could be the subject of cooperation, starting next year, in the fields of artificial intelligence, collaborative robotics, digital twins, connected objects and 3D printing.

“After strengthening our ties with France in 2024, when we acquire military vehicle supplier Arquus, we intend to strengthen our ties with the region. It is important to be able to recruit locally”already envisioned Michel Dorandeu, director of the training campus set up on the grounds of the former eighth infantry regiment.
