On Monday, November 24, a federal judge dismissed two indictments made by Donald Trump, against former FBI director James Comey and New York State Attorney General Letitia James, who were the targets of the American president’s revenge.
Donald Trump has repeatedly stated during his election campaign about his desire to take revenge on everyone he considers personal enemies. James Comey, 64, on September 25 became the first person to be indicted since his return to power, before Letitia James, 67, on October 9.
A judge on Monday overturned the appointment of Lindsey Halligan, the prosecutor chosen by Donald Trump, who initiated this process, and consequently declared a waiver of the process in both cases.
The judge specifically rejected the government’s arguments to be put forward by Justice Minister Pam Bondi “retroactively” legitimize the actions taken by the prosecutor.“This means that the government can send any individual – lawyer or not – before a grand jury for an indictment as long as the Minister of Justice gives his approval after the fact”he stressed.
However, this provides the possibility for the Department of Justice to file new charges in the two cases but in the case of James Comey, the deadline for the facts alleged against him expired at the end of September.
Department of Justice “will appeal as soon as possible if this has not been done”, replied White House spokeswoman Karoline Leavitt.
