Princess Kate spoke about how motherhood doesn’t just trigger positive feelings – and referred to an exhibition in this context.
As patron of the organization Maternal Mental Health Alliance (MMHA), Princess Kate has been committed to the mental well-being of mothers since 2022. Now, as part of the new photo exhibition “This is Also Motherhood”, she has published a personal letter intended to raise awareness of the psychological stress of pregnancy and motherhood.
The exhibition, organized by the MMHA, uses the stories of ten women to tell experiences ranging from joy to trauma – and shows how diverse motherhood can be. In a letter also posted on the MMHA’s Instagram page, Kate paid tribute to the women.
Personal experience is also reflected in his words. As a mother of three, she knows the challenges faced in being a parent. “Every parent’s story matters, and every voice has the power to help build a society where love, hope, and compassion are at the heart of everything we do,” he wrote.
The focus of the exhibition is “extraordinary women,” explains the 43-year-old. “Their courage to speak openly about their experiences – be it trauma, joy or resilience – shows the immense vulnerability and strength of human nature.”
Feelings of isolation can arise, especially around the time of giving birth. “That no one should have to go through the period surrounding birth alone” is the main message of this exhibition.
In his letter he appealed to parents to provide consistent attention – not only medically, but also psychologically. Access to mental health services must be guaranteed before, during and after birth.
