When a new plan to end the war emerges, Russia’s attacks on Ukraine continue. At least 6 people died and more than 10 people were injured in a night airstrikes carried out by Russian armed forces on Kiev with missiles and drones. Ukrainian authorities reported this, explaining that attacks in the Ukrainian capital targeted residential buildings and civilian infrastructure in several neighborhoods. In particular, a nine-story building in the Dniprovskyi district was hit, causing a fire that killed two people, including an 86-year-old woman.
Tymur Tkachenko, head of Kiev’s military government, said four people were killed in the city’s Svyatoshynskyi neighborhood and accused Russia of “deliberately targeting civilian infrastructure and housing.”
After several hours of calm in the city, the sirens started sounding again at around 5:30 a.m. local time, when Russia launched a second wave of cruise missiles towards Kiev, local sources told CNN. The region south of Odessa was also attacked by drones, the Ukrainian Air Force said.
Zelensky: “Keep putting pressure on Moscow, it will definitely pay off”
”The main Russian offensive that occurred overnight hit the capital and the region, causing extensive damage to residential buildings and civil infrastructure throughout the city. Currently, thirteen people are injured and, unfortunately, six people are dead,” Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky wrote in ‘X’, reporting ”destruction also occurred in the Odessa region: ports, food supplies and infrastructure were affected, without any military purpose. They also attacked the Dnipro, Kharkiv, Chernihiv and Tserkasy regions. The main target is the energy sector and everything that keeps life normal”.
The President of Ukraine reported that in the evening ”in total, Russia launched 22 missiles of various types, including aeroballistic missiles, and more than 460 drones, most of which were Russian-Iranian “shahed”. Zelensky also emphasized that ”four drones crossed the airspace of our neighbors, Moldova and Romania” and ”It is precisely for this reason that all partners must remember that every day we need to save human lives. Weapons and air defense systems are important, as is sanctions pressure on aggressors. There should be no delay in providing assistance”.
Zelensky concluded by stating that ”what is most important now is that all partners move forward towards joint diplomacy, through joint efforts. Pressure on Russia must produce results. Thank you to everyone who supports Ukraine”.
Kiev: “Russian attack is Putin’s terrorist response to US plans”
A “terrorist reaction” to America’s plans to end the war. Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andriï Sybiga described in these words X the Russian attack that caused at least six deaths in Kiev during the night. Putin – he added – demonstrated his terrorist reaction to the peace proposals of the United States and President Trump, launching a barrage of missiles and drones at Ukraine.
The attacks in Kiev hit civilian buildings in southern Russia
Condominiums and other residential and commercial locations were instead hit by attacks by Kiev forces in the Growth region, reported the governor, Yury Slyusar. In total, four buildings, 12 villas and social facilities were damaged. At least one Ukrainian missile then hit a residential building in the Krasnodar region resort of Gelendzhik. Air defenses along the Black Sea coast have been activated by drone strikes.
In the evening, Russian anti-aircraft intercepted 249 Ukrainian drones, Moscow’s Defense Minister announced. In detail, 116 drones were shot down while flying over the Black Sea, 76 in the Krasnodar region, 23 in the annexed Crimean peninsula, and 16 in the Growth region, the ministry said.
CNN: talks between US and Russian officials in Abu Dhabi
Meanwhile, US Army Secretary Dan Driscoll met with Russian officials in Abu Dhabi to discuss Washington’s proposed plan to end the war in Ukraine, a US official told CNN, explaining that Driscoll would hold further meetings later today.
It was not clear who was part of the Russian delegation, but Driscoll was the senior representative of the American delegation, not including diplomats, the official added. The meeting was intended to lay the groundwork for future high-level engagement, the official continued on CNN.
The new 19-point plan and Russia’s reaction
Ukraine would succeed in changing Donald Trump’s plans: the 28 points originally made by the United States were changed and reduced to 19. The talks in Geneva helped Kiev eliminate elements deemed too favorable to Russia.
The detailed outline of the new document is not yet known. Among the details filtered out, the removal of provisions on the use of frozen Russian assets in Ukraine’s rebuilding process was removed from the plan. Trump’s initial proposal called for the United States to receive 50% of profits and unused frozen assets to be allocated to a Russian-American investment fund.
The American plan for Ukraine, in the version seen by Moscow, “could become the basis for a final peace agreement”. This is what Vladimir Putin reported during a telephone conversation he had today with his Turkish counterpart Recep Tayyip Erdogan. According to Kremlin notes, Putin “noted that this proposal is consistent with discussions at the Alaska summit.”
As for Europe’s counter-proposal to the 28-point peace plan drawn up by the United States, it seems to Moscow ”at first glance not very constructive” and ”not successful for Russia”, said Kremlin foreign policy adviser Yuri Ushakov.
Macron: “Trump’s plan is a step in the right direction but needs to be revised”
President Trump’s peace plan to end the war between Russia and Ukraine is ”a step in the right direction,” French President Emmanuel Macron said in an interview with RTL. “The plan proposed by the United States is a step in the right direction: peace. However, there are several elements that are worth discussing and improving. No one can tell Ukraine what territorial concessions they should make,” said the French president.
“We want peace, but we don’t want a peace that is a surrender that puts Ukraine in an impossible situation and gives Russia the opportunity to push further and endanger our collective security,” Macron said.
Tajani: “The US plan is a starting point, we support it”
“We support that the United States’ plan needs to be revised, this is a starting point, but I think the meeting with Ukraine is moving in the right direction.” This was conveyed by Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani at a press conference in Riyadh. “Europe will make its contribution, also because peace cannot be signed without Europe’s presence because Europe has imposed sanctions on the Russian Federation. Therefore, to close the peace agreement, Europe needs to lift its sanctions,” stressed Tajani.
The plan is “we are waiting for an answer from Moscow, because so far only bombs and attacks have come, even last night”, he added.
