He became famous for his creations worn by Lady Diana. Now designer Paul Costelloe has died in London.

Irish fashion designer Paul Costelloe has died. Lady Di’s personal fashion designer died after a short illness at the age of 80 in the British capital London, her family announced on Saturday.

The luxury womenswear designer is one of Ireland’s most renowned fashion designers and has been a regular at London Fashion Week for over 40 years. He dressed Princess Diana, the former wife of Prince Charles, the current king, from 1983 until her death in 1997. With his advice, she became a style icon. She once said of her former mistress: “She was very humane, she did not behave like a princess.”

Born in the Irish capital Dublin in 1945, Costelloe initially worked for fashion houses in Paris and then moved to Milan for British chain Marks and Spencer. In an interview with “Vogue” in 2024, the father of seven said that after retiring from the industry he wanted to travel around France by car and paint.
