A sudden landslide swept away three houses in the hamlet of Brazzano di Cormons, in Gorizia province, as a wave of bad weather hit Friuli Venezia Giulia. One man was pulled out alive, while the two missing people, a 32-year-old German man and an 83-year-old man he was helping, were found dead. At the same time, the Torre river flooded the Romans d’Isonzo area: about 300 people were evacuated and some took refuge on the roofs of houses. The situation prompted the region to declare a state of emergency and support from the national Civil Protection Department was activated for relief efforts. Rainfall exceeded 150-200 mm in the affected areas within a few hours, exacerbating the criticality of the terrain.
