The Lebanese Ministry of Health reported this Tuesday evening, November 18, 13 deaths in an Israeli attack on a Palestinian refugee camp in southern Lebanon, “Aïn al-Héloué camp in Saïda. THAT “Ambulances transported more injured people to nearby hospitals”according to this source.
The attack targeted a car near the Khaled bin al-Walid mosque and “It was later reported that the attack also targeted” the mosque itself as well as its center with the same name, official news agency ANI said.
The Israeli army, for its part, claimed to have targeted Hamas training camps in southern Lebanon “terrorists in operations (…) with the intent to carry out terrorist attacks against (the Israeli army) and the State of Israel”said a military press release.
Earlier on Tuesday, the Lebanese Ministry of Health reported two deaths from a drone strike attributed to Israel in the southern Lebanese town of Bint Jbeil. The Israeli army did not immediately comment on this information.
Israel continues its attacks in Lebanon despite a ceasefire agreed in November 2024 aimed at ending the conflict with Lebanon’s Hezbollah movement, an ally of the Palestinian Islamist group Hamas. The IDF usually claims to target Hezbollah members or facilities of Iranian-backed movements, but it has also attacked suspected Hamas members in Lebanon.
Lebanon hosts around 222,000 Palestinian refugees, according to the UN, most of whom live in camps. Based on tacit agreements, Palestinian organizations control these camps where the Lebanese army cannot enter. Palestinian factions present in refugee camps in Lebanon began in August to hand over their weapons to authorities, in accordance with a deal agreed in May aimed at guaranteeing the Lebanese state an arms monopoly.
