Author David Szalay has it novel Meat won the prestigious Booker Prize. The 51-year-old Canadian-Hungarian-British writer beat five other finalists, including England’s Andrew Miller and India’s Kiran Desai, who were considered favorites. The prize is worth 50,000 pounds (around 57,000 euros).
The jury considered the book to stand out from other books because of its uniqueness. “We’ve never read anything like this. In many ways, it’s a dark book, but a fun one to read.”
Meat depicts one man’s life journey from youth to old age, from a quiet apartment complex in Hungary to the super-rich society of London.
Szalay was selected by a jury that included Irish people writer Roddy Doyle and Sex and the Citystar Sarah Jessica Parker.
