Liverpool FC’s crisis continues in the Champions League. The Reds suffered a home disaster against PSV Eindhoven with a 1:4 draw (1:2) and slipped in the standings. Real Madrid, on the other hand, was able to win a wild game at Olympiakos Piraeus 4:3 (3:1) thanks to a superb four-pack from Kylian Mbappé. In another goal spectacle, defending champions Paris Saint-Germain battled to a 5:3 (1:1) win against Tottenham Hotspur.
Liverpool suffered the biggest setback, whose misery continued just minutes after kick-off. After Virgil van Dijk took a handball, Ivan Perisic (6th minute) converted the penalty to put Eindhoven ahead. Dominik Szoboszlai (16) managed to equalize early with a goal, but Guus Til (56) and Couhaib Driouech (73/90+1) again put PSV ahead. National player Florian Wirtz is absent from the home squad due to a muscle injury.
Mbappé four packages, Vitinha three packages
Meanwhile, superstar Real Mbappé put on his best performance of the night. After Piraeus took an early lead through Chiquinho (8), the Frenchman turned things around with a hat trick in less than seven minutes (22/24/29) before the break. Mehdi Taremi (52) briefly got the Greek team back into action – until Mbappé (60) added another tally with his ninth goal of the current first-class season. Ayoub El Kaabi (81) just managed to score the next goal.
Mbappé’s former club, PSG, also achieved a spectacular, hard-fought win against Spurs. Vitinha was equally outstanding with a hat-trick (45/53/76, hand penalty), Fabian Ruiz (59) and Willian Pacho (65) finally ensured success. Richarlison’s goals (35) and two goals from former PSG striker Randal Kolo Muani (50/72) were not enough for the English team to get a point. Substitute Lucas Hernandez received a red card for an attack in stoppage time (90+3).
