Munich’s main S-Bahn line was largely closed again
S-Bahn passengers in Munich experience frequent closures on the main line. They have just finished a long phase of restrictions. The next one is coming this weekend.
Just days after the end of autumn holiday restrictions, Munich’s main S-Bahn line will be largely closed again this weekend. From Saturday 04.00 to Monday 04.30 only one S-Bahn line operates on the route. Additionally, S2 must travel from the west to at least Isartor. Deutsche Bahn announced that the first restrictions will come into effect on Friday evening from 22:20.
Depending on the route coming from the west, the remaining S-Bahn lines terminate at the main station, at Heimeranplatz, or at Pasing. From the east it ends at Trudering, Giesing and at Ostbahnhof.
How passengers can still get to the city center
If you still want to take the S-Bahn to the city center, you can change to an alternative bus between Trudering and Ostbahnhof. From Giesing and Heimeranplatz, you should consider changing to the subway.
According to Deutsche Bahn, the reason for the restrictions is engineering work on the lines and cables as well as checking the subsoil for possible unexploded bombs at the Ostbahnhof, where construction work for the second main line is also underway.
Periodic closure of main routes is necessary

S-Bahn passengers in the Munich area know that the main line is regularly closed at weekends for maintenance work. Work on the second main line currently under construction also sometimes affects the process.
During the autumn holidays, for example, there were schedule changes for almost all Munich S-Bahn lines, and the route between Pasing and Donnersbergerbrücke remained temporarily closed. And according to Deutsche Bahn, passengers will also face similar restrictions this weekend on the first and second weekends of Advent.
