Marvin Ducksch (31) finally arrives – and how!
The former Werder man turned on the turbo in England by scoring twice to put Birmingham City 4-1 up over Norwich. The fans at St. Andrew’s was in a state of total emergency – Ducksch was in the middle of it all, beaming as if he were in Werder’s best days. In the British attack, everything happened through him.
Three minutes later, the doorbell rang. Demarai Gray raced down the left, took the ball perfectly into the middle, Ducksch stretched out his foot and it went in. Just before the corner he unleashed his famous Harlequins celebration – pure ecstasy in the stands. The blow seemed like a liberation. You can immediately feel that this afternoon could be a very special afternoon for him.
And that’s what happened! Just before the break, Ducksch followed up. Iwata missed first with a header, Norwich keeper Gunn clapped, Ducksch stood in the right place and pushed the ball in to make it 3-1. Icy, instinctive, typically Ducksch! Since then, in Birmingham they have been talking about the “double German attack” that ultimately decided the outcome of the match.
True or unreasonable? from 11/11/25: Did Schlotterbeck leave because of Kovac?
This double package fits perfectly with Birmingham’s new run: three straight home games with four goals, plus a team that performs with incredible energy – and Ducksch has long been a central part of it. He was regularly in the starting line-up for weeks, creating routes, tying up defensive lines and creating space for his attacking teammates. Now he finally appreciates himself.
After the victory, City’s professional team is ranked ninth with 24 points, only one point behind the playoff rankings. The club from England’s second biggest city is dreaming of being at the top again – and Ducksch is one of the reasons why.
He told BILD: “I feel very comfortable here. The players, the club, the fans – everything felt right from day one. Of course it’s great to score goals now. But what’s even more pleasing is that we have great strength as a team at the moment. It feels like something that can grow.”
And further: “What was very important for me: I felt a very strong appreciation from the fans and everyone at the club from the first minute. They believed in me. I could feel it. This is different compared to the last time at Werder.”
The gate knot had broken. Birmingham is celebrating its new German – and Ducksch has finally fully arrived in England.
