Mattarella at the center of Enav’s radar, visit to Ciampino

The President of the Republic, Sergio Mattarella, visited the Enav Acc radar center (Area control center) in Ciampino this evening. After landing at Rome airport, upon returning from a visit to the United Nations Center in Vienna, the Head of State arrived at the Radar Center, where he was greeted by Alessandra Bruni and Pasqualino Monti, respectively president of the Board of Directors and CEO of Enav.

Mattarella was then given a tour of the operations room by Maurizio Paggetti, director of operations, and Amedeo Belli, manager of the Radar Center, who illustrated air traffic management methods. The President of the Republic was able to identify the operational structure responsible for the management and control of 66% of the national airspace, which stretches from northern Tuscany to south-central Italy, including Sardinia, to Sicily.

At the Rome Area Control Center, almost 400 people work in technical-operational activities, which guarantee the safety of more than one million flights per year with a daily peak that, in the high season, reaches 4,800 aircraft movements per day.
