Maurizio Sella, long-time president of Banca Sella, has died: he was 83 years old

Maurizio Sella, who served as president of Banca Sella Holding from 2000 to May 2025, the parent company of the Sella Group, died on Saturday evening at the age of 83. Sella started working at the bank in 1966, immediately after graduating in Economics in Turin, under the management of his father Ernesto and uncle Giorgio. In 1974 he became CEO of the bank, in a time of expansion and development of new technology. For his role in entrepreneurship, he was made a Knight of Labor in 1991, and then in 2018 a Knight of the Grand Cross, the highest honor bestowed by the President of the Republic.

Banca Sella was founded in Biella, Piedmont, in 1886 by Gaudenzio Sella, who was the nephew of Quintino Sella, deputy of the first legislature of the Kingdom of Italy after Unification and three times Minister of Finance. Today Banca Sella is an institution rooted primarily in the North West, much smaller in size than the larger, but solid, Unicredit and Intesa Sanpaolo. The managing director is Pietro Sella, Maurizio’s son. Among other companies it owns Hype, with which digital accounts can be opened.
