MILAN (ITALPRESS) – A cynical Milan celebrates and wins 1-0 in the derby against Inter. A steal from Pulisic and Calhanoglu’s penalty miss in the second half marked the match. A record-breaking derby in terms of scoring. The revenue of 8 million and 649,494 euros recorded at the box office actually marked a record in Serie A history. The first chance in the match belonged to the Nerazzurri and came in the 4th minute. Dimarco passed the ball from the left to Thuram, who headed the ball but found his compatriot Maignan ready to make a diving save. Moments later, Gabbia was elbowed in the face by Martinez in a flying tackle and remained on the ground for several minutes. In the 27th minute Chivu’s troops almost regained the lead when Acerbi’s header from a corner hit the post. The Rossoneri saved themselves again ten minutes later, when Thuram headed the ball for Martinez who volleyed home with his right foot, but Maignan made another great save by deflecting the ball onto the post to his left. The first call from the 7-time European champions came in the 43rd minute, when Pulisic managed to find a central gap and advanced to the edge of the box, finishing wide with a fine right-footed shot. The first half ended goalless. The match broke the deadlock in the 9th minute of the second half. Calhanoglu lost the ball, Fofana went wide on the right for Saelemaekers who fired from distance with his right foot, and Sommer parried it in favor of Pulisic who struck comfortably with his left foot to make it 1-0. In the 24th minute a new potential turning point arrived. Pavlovic was the protagonist in a kick in the penalty area against Thuram and the referee, after a VAR review, awarded Inter a penalty. Calhanoglu emerged from the penalty spot, but was hypnotized by the superlative Maignan. The home side looked for an equalizer and, in the 44th minute, new substitute Bonny fired in a first-time right-footed shot from an advantageous position. The last attack did not worry Maignan any more and the result would not have changed any more. For Milan came a big win which put them in second place in the standings with 25 points equal to Napoli, -2 from leaders Roma and +1 from their city rivals who dropped to fourth place.
