A woman killed her nine-year-old son by slitting his throat. It happened last night at their house, in the center of Muggia (Trieste). The Ukrainian woman was separated from her father. The man himself raised the alarm, who does not live in Friuli Venezia Giulia, because he could not contact the woman. When Flying Squad officers arrived, the child was already dead.
Based on the information we obtained, the 55 year old woman was followed by the Community Health Center and the general family situation by social services. The situation is difficult but “not dramatic”, as Muggia Mayor Paolo Polidori put it. It seems that the situation between the woman and her husband, an Italian citizen, was also difficult, so the couple decided to separate.
The woman allegedly used a kitchen knife to commit the murder and then tried to injure herself. The boy is in the fourth grade at a Slovenian elementary school in Muggia.
The child was entrusted to his father after the couple separated. A difficult story, as many have seen. However, according to the court’s instructions, the child was able to meet his mother, who lives on Via Marconi, in the center of Muggia. Based on known information, when firefighters arrived at the house with police, the small child had been dead for hours and his body was in the bathroom.
Mayor Muggia: ‘Followed since the child was born’
“The situation has been followed since the child was born, it is a difficult situation but not a drama”, in the sense that there is nothing that suggests it could lead to tragedy. The speaker was the mayor of Muggia, Paolo Polidori, who had announced that a city of mourning would be declared. A boy born in Muggia and well known to the community, Polidori said: “The community is devastated. I have had meetings with social services: we are trying to get as close as possible. The family is part of the community, even the parish priest knows them.”
The City Government activated support services at the school where the child attended, to support his classmates.
