The small party led by LFI-linked deputy Aymeric Caron, Ecological Revolution for Life (REV), will not form an alliance with La France insoumise in the municipal elections in Paris and will therefore submit its own candidacy in the capital’s 18th arrondissement, he announced on Friday.
“In Paris there will be no alliance between REV and La France insoumise,” lamented the deputy who sits on the insoumise group in the Assembly, in a video published on his X account.
REV allied with La France insoumise in 2020 in the municipal elections in Paris and proposed to LFI to renew this alliance in 2026, Aymeric Caron said, noting that his party wants to be at the top of the list in the 18th arrondissement of Paris, where Aymeric Caron was elected as a deputy.
“Conditions” apply
“But in recent days, the conditions that France Insoumise wanted to impose on this agreement with REV have made things impossible. Because REV cannot lead the campaign it wants and also cannot put together the list it wants,” the former journalist criticized, noting that his party would submit its own list in the 18th arrondissement of Paris.
“A priori, I would not be at the top of that list,” added LFI deputy Aymeric Caron, who is president of its anti-species and environmental activist party.
Sophia Chikirou, a central figure in the rebel apparatus and close to Jean-Luc Mélenchon, formalized her candidacy for Paris city hall on Friday. It is MP Danièle Obono who will be the LFI candidate in the 18th arrondissement of Paris, where the radical left movement is hoping for a good result.
