Municipal selection in Grenoble: PS joins the list of Ecologist Laurence Ruffin

This is a “historic and important rapprochement for Grenoble”. The Socialist Party in Grenoble will join the Ecologist’s campaign for the 2026 municipal elections, their leaders announced on Friday in a press conference.

The PS will join seven other left-wing parties on a list led by business leader Laurence Ruffin, in the running to replace current environment councilor Éric Piolle. He has long indicated that he would not seek re-election in the Alpine capital after two terms.

This “historic” rapprochement is the result of “travels” and numerous discussions between the two movements since her election as head of the movement last September, underlined the native of Amianoise, based in Grenoble since 2003 and the sister of MP François Ruffin (former Insoumis).

“Quite a historic moment”

“Today we arrived with a great desire to create a project” that aims to “improve the daily life of the residents of Grenoble. And I think that is what we want to wear together,” he added.

“This is not necessarily something normal, tonight we are still in quite a historic moment,” added socialist leader Amandine Germain, recalling the sharp divisions that have damaged relations between socialists and ecologists in Grenoble over the past twenty years.

“What I wear is leftist unity”

But “there are still many similarities in what we have started to work on, each in our own corner to date”, he underlined, expressing “confidence” in Laurence Ruffin and describing him as “someone solid to be the future mayor of Grenoble”.

When asked about relations with the LFI and Place Publique parties, who are running their municipal campaigns separately, they “make their own choices”, underlines Laurence Ruffin.

“What I brought was left-wing unity. There are parties who have decided to leave on their own. That is their responsibility,” he said.
