Megastar Cher got Bambi this year. He will be honored as a “legend” at a ceremony in Munich and will receive his prize, he said Burda Publishing with. “Cher is a legend because she never stops being herself – loud, proud and fearless,” the Bambi judge said in a statement.
“Goddess of Pop”
“He inspired generations of artists and was passionate about the LGBTQ+ community, AIDS relief, social justice, and animal protection,” he continued. “To this day, it symbolizes self-determination, strength, and the ability to reinvent yourself again and again.”
The 79-year-old, who became world famous at the age of 19 with the duet “I Got You Babe”, is a “pop goddess” and “one of the most influential figures of our time” and has repeatedly set musical standards. According to Burda Verlag, the Grammy award winner sold more than 140 million records worldwide.
The American also made a global career as an actress with films such as “The Witches of Eastwick” and “Moonstruck” and won many awards, including an Oscar, an Emmy and three Golden Globes.
“Beacon of Humanity”
In a career spanning more than six decades, Cher “not only revolutionized the entertainment industry, but also set standards around the world with her tireless commitment to social justice and the protection of humans and animals,” the jury said. “Cher is a beacon of humanity, courage and transformation.”
Bambi is one of Germany’s most important media and television awards. The gala will be broadcast live from Bavaria Filmstudios on Prime Video on Thursday (November 13).
This year awards will be given in more than twelve categories. Other notable award winners include model Heidi Klum, filmmaker Michael “Bully” Herbig and comedian Hazel Brugger. For the third time in a row, the Bambi Awards will be held in Munich instead.
